Why stainless steel
Five years
ago I started making jewellery in Lead free pewter. I loved the colour and the
fact it didn’t irritate my skin. My jewellery was very well received by my
customers.
However there was a down side to the pewter. It’s a soft metal so this limited what I could make. It dulled if not warn regularly and at times made black marks on my skin and clothing. (Possibly due to higher body acidity levels. Mmmm! This may have something to do with lots of red wine being consumed L).
I decided it was time for change, however I wanted my jewellery to have the same look, finish and colour. I hunted high and low and finally came across stainless steel casting. I was delighted!
My jewellery is now made from 316 stainless steel AKA surgical steel. This metal is hypo-allergic, so is ideal for people with sensitive skin.
316 stainless steel is similar in colour to sterling silver and lead free pewter but with far more advantages. It’s a hard metal, so your jewellery won’t ding or scratch. It won’t tarnish, blue or become dull thus requiring little maintenance. It won’t leave black marks on your skin or clothing.
All in all, stainless steel jewellery is functional, hard wearing, easy to care for and gorgeous to wear!
